Hawaii Days Three and Four Oahu

After breakfast at the hotel, we boarded a bus for 'Iolnai Palace, the official residence of King David Kalakaua and Queen Lili'uokalani the last Hawaiian Monarch.  The throne room took my breath away with its beauty---the carpet in pinks and roses with palm fronds was beautiful.  The palace had modern conveniences:  telephone, indoor plumbing, electricity and elevators.  Thomas Edison even built the first power plant near the airport.

After the Palace, we boarded the bus and had a free afternoon to shop or lounge by the pool.

We first had a lecture on weather, wind waves and island formations at the hotel. For example, Maui was much larger at one time but has separated into other islands including Molokai.  The Chain of islands are 1500 mile and include Wake.  Then, we packed up and headed to Pearl Harbor.  After that we boarded the ship.

For more on Pearl Harbor, click here.  I recommend Pearl Harbor and the Palace for anyone visiting Honolulu.  Be sure to see the film at the Palace on the Royal family.

Between Two Worlds

Most of my life, I've considered it fortunate that I was just ahead of the Baby-boom. Generally, the Baby-boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 after the fathers returned from World War II. It was a huge population explosion that has reverberated through American society.

This blog will be part history, part memories, part reflections of a retired teacher, but active "Senior". I have always felt like I straddled two generations forming a bridge. Sometimes I think like a baby-boomer, but sometimes I'm locked into my parents' Depression era thinking. I'm a dichotomy of two eras. But, I'm always ready to try something new---so here I am dipping my toes in the water of Blogworld.
