Showering Peace

Rainy days with you,

sitting on my patio,

celebrating a rare, soft summer rain.

While sunny days can be comforting with the sun’s warmth,

showers in summer are rare and should be celebrated:

soft gentle rain, not storms.

Rainy days calm me, slow me down.

We watch drops of rain sprinkling:

like twinkling stars

softly falling on a cottonwood leaf

Trickling down the drain restoring a glimmer of life.

I celebrate the mist now falling:

 a mystical scene

of brooding trees rising up slowly

from the swamp.

Clouds shading the canopy from

the sun’s harsh rays.

The respite and relief reminds us

to slow down and reflect on what brings peace.

No Tai Chi or Happy Hour today.

Just celebrating a rainy day in July:

a midsummer Missouri treasure.

Celebrating summer with you

in the rain on my patio is Peace.

Opening Shot

Sitting on her patio, the grey-haired woman wears a red hat,

Laptop by her side waiting for the magic of inspiration..

She glances up from trying to write.

This is her Happy Place:

Watching the trees sway in the soft breeze of summer,

And, listening to the rustle  of leaves like water boiling on the stove.

The sky is gray with the haze of July.

Hawks slowly survey the scene like a politician working the room for prey.

She waits outside finding peace In this steamy environment,

Sitting limp in a chair absorbing the peace before  life’s reality calls her.

The AC cannot lure her back into what  awaits for her:

Peace eludes her inside.

Peace and War

Summer’s heat caresses my arms:

tensions fade away.

Soft cool breezes soothe my soul.

I listen to the whispers in the wind,

A dove coos raising my hopes

of a breezy, drowsy day.

Here comes Humidity,

that unloved companion of Summer’s warmth:

Humidity bouncing on my chest

like an obese pup wanting to be loved.

I can’t leave the heat, I’m embraced by the warmth,

 but Humidity’s weight . . .

I am stirred to action:

the chubby puppy  is jumping on my chest, licking my face——

Humidity is out of control—-

Must retreat

Stepping inside my cool apartment

My fortress protects me from that damp assault. . .

But I still crave the warmth of Summer’s touch.

Between Two Worlds

Most of my life, I've considered it fortunate that I was just ahead of the Baby-boom. Generally, the Baby-boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 after the fathers returned from World War II. It was a huge population explosion that has reverberated through American society.

This blog will be part history, part memories, part reflections of a retired teacher, but active "Senior". I have always felt like I straddled two generations forming a bridge. Sometimes I think like a baby-boomer, but sometimes I'm locked into my parents' Depression era thinking. I'm a dichotomy of two eras. But, I'm always ready to try something new---so here I am dipping my toes in the water of Blogworld.
