Art by Day

Last week, we got a sneak preview of the Chinese Lantern Festival at the Missouri Botanical Garden.
It is called Art by Day, Magic by Night.

Although most of the lanterns are outside, some are in the visitors center.

There was plenty to see although it is still under construction with many workers/artisans brought over from China.
We still have our wonderful Dale Chihuly pieces that are enhanced by the beautiful lanterns.
Not everything is made of silk.  This lantern being constructed across the lily ponds is made of china plates and cups.
Although we were there 3 weeks before the opening Memorial Weekend, we could still see how magnificent it will be.
One of the lanterns is 3 stories tall.

Some are in all sorts of whimsical designs.
Being a big recycler, I really wanted to see the art made of medicine bottles filled with colored water.

The Garden was packed 3 weeks before the opening; many were buying the night tickets.  But, I already thought it was magical.

Between Two Worlds

Most of my life, I've considered it fortunate that I was just ahead of the Baby-boom. Generally, the Baby-boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 after the fathers returned from World War II. It was a huge population explosion that has reverberated through American society.

This blog will be part history, part memories, part reflections of a retired teacher, but active "Senior". I have always felt like I straddled two generations forming a bridge. Sometimes I think like a baby-boomer, but sometimes I'm locked into my parents' Depression era thinking. I'm a dichotomy of two eras. But, I'm always ready to try something new---so here I am dipping my toes in the water of Blogworld.
