St. Louis Downtown Library Part 1

My Tri Psi group went on a tour of the Downtown Library recently renovated. Although it appears rectangular on the outside it is really an oval building boxed in with 4 rectangles with open areas.  See the photos below

Originally constructed in the early 1900's by Cass Gilbert (Click here for more on the history), the renovation cost more than the original construction.

The stained glass widows are by Gorham which was considered better than Tiffany at the time.

Although most of the library is beautifully restored to its century old beauty, the children's section is contemporary with windows portraying illustrations from famous children's books.  So many photos, I've decided to make this one windows and doorways.

Between Two Worlds

Most of my life, I've considered it fortunate that I was just ahead of the Baby-boom. Generally, the Baby-boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 after the fathers returned from World War II. It was a huge population explosion that has reverberated through American society.

This blog will be part history, part memories, part reflections of a retired teacher, but active "Senior". I have always felt like I straddled two generations forming a bridge. Sometimes I think like a baby-boomer, but sometimes I'm locked into my parents' Depression era thinking. I'm a dichotomy of two eras. But, I'm always ready to try something new---so here I am dipping my toes in the water of Blogworld.
