Happy Birthday Rebecca!

In August, my sister Jane and I had a barbeque at the Provosts for our father's birthday. In just two weeks, he would become a grandfather with the birth of Rebecca, then 3 weeks later came her cousin Lynn.

Although the nursery was ready, I believed that everyone delivered their first child several weeks late. So, I made plans to go downtown shopping with a friend of mine only to have to call her from the hospital and cancel those plans.Of course Rebecca was on time---she's always punctual (or a little early). She was born at Missouri Baptist Hospital pictured above in the 1970's. In the upper left hand corner is our room number.
Here Rebecca is at just a few hours old---so bright-eyed and alert (can't say I even saw her sister's eyes open in the hospital)
Here's the proud Papa with Rebecca at one day old who looks so adoringly at him.
And, here she is at two days old, showing a little leg. Happy Birthday Rebecca---hope you have a bright-eyed, adoring day, but don't forget to show a little leg!

Kansas City Switch

On Wednesday, Dave and I drove to the Twenter's house; Leah and Eli packed up the van and drove up to the Lewis's. We arrived just in time to hop in Rachel's Suburban to pick Brett and Davis up after their first day at school. Above is St. Elizabeth's new playground with shamrock fence. The boys were surprised to see us picking them up and both had good first days. We decided to treat everyone to lunch at a Kansas City institution---Winstead's
Libby loves her cheeseburgers!

Then we went to a local park for a little playtime and bike riding.
Followed by some baseball. . .
more bike riding and looking over some My Pretty Pony toys Libby had just inherited from neighbors.
Thursday was another "Switch Day". While Brett and Davis went to school, Libby, Rachel, Roman, Rebecca, Eli and Leah met at "Paradise Park" in Lees Summit.

We had lunch there, but Rachel was not impressed by their "Pizza Buffet"---a heating window with about 10 slices of pizza. The rest of us got what we expected.
Finally, it was time for Leah, Eli, Dave and I to head East. We transferred our suitcases to the van, got hugs and headed home. (We TRIED to get a photo of all 3 kids---this is the best we could do)

Road Trip to Kansas City

After Roman's visit, Leah and Eli came over. We packed up and hit the road for Kansas City to take Roman home and to visit the Twenters.
First, we went to the Twenters where we dropped off Leah, Eli and their gear. Dave, Roman and I then headed north to his home in Parkville.
The next day, Rebecca, Roman, Dave and I headed to Kansas City to see Science City.
Before we actually entered the museum, we saw a rabbit outside (in downtown Kansas City!). While looking at him he hopped under the yellow Hummer above and then, stunned us by hopping inside the Hummer.
Once inside the museum, there were many activities and displays to entertain and educate us.
Roman is watching a blast of air send a beach ball in the air at an indoor miniature golf which had the physics lessons posted.
Then we saw a room with snakes, mice, rabbits and other small animals.
Rebecca and Roman are climbing up to the tree house.
They also had an exhibit with trains---I think Roman is pointing out a car in a pothole.

Although we didn't have the courage to try the "air bike", Rebecca, Dave and Roman enjoy watching others.

Dave is pointing out the Burns and McDonnell sign----my brother works for this engineering firm.
Dave is enjoying Roman's music!

After the "Science City", we went to Crown Center where we had lunch at Fritz's.First, we ordered lunch on the phone, then a train, running along a track below the ceiling, brought us lunch in a white box.
The lunch was then lowered to our table by hydraulics.
The food was not the greatest, but it was a fun place for a couple of train fans!

Roman's Visit Day 2

After a walk in the morning, Roman and I went to church where the children stay in worship for half of the worship service. Here's Roman "levitating" during worship.
Compare him to Sally whose Daddy was a friend of my daughter Rebecca's---she looks so sweet, lady-like and annoyed by us.
Then, we went to Sunday School---Roman wanted me to stay with him which I did. After a doughnut run, lunch and a nap, we went to an Open House for Kristen and Todd who will be moving to England with their two small boys in a few weeks.
Kristen was one of Rachel's friends in high school---here she is with Timothy who'd just gotten up from his nap.
Here is Todd with Timothy---Good Luck to them with their Children's Ministry outside of London!
Meanwhile, Roman played with Christopher whose Mommy is Rebecca's friend.
They are only about 3 weeks apart in age and played so well together!
But, soon it was time to come home, eat a little dinner, take a bath, sit on Grandpa's lap while watching "Barney." The next day, we headed to Kansas City to take Roman back home after his weekend at Camp Morgan!

Between Two Worlds

Most of my life, I've considered it fortunate that I was just ahead of the Baby-boom. Generally, the Baby-boomers were born between 1946 and 1964 after the fathers returned from World War II. It was a huge population explosion that has reverberated through American society.

This blog will be part history, part memories, part reflections of a retired teacher, but active "Senior". I have always felt like I straddled two generations forming a bridge. Sometimes I think like a baby-boomer, but sometimes I'm locked into my parents' Depression era thinking. I'm a dichotomy of two eras. But, I'm always ready to try something new---so here I am dipping my toes in the water of Blogworld.
